Over the next two years, we will be participating in Hungary’s largest environmental program.

On behalf of the Debrecen local government, we will create a green corridor around the Debrecen BMW plant by planting 38,000 shrubs and 2,200 trees, as well as sowing grass over 40,000 m2 and installing an irrigation system, with the project set for completion by 2026.

This task is of great importance to us, as one of our key missions is to create lasting values while also protecting the environment, conserving resources, and reducing our ecological footprint to build a more sustainable future.

The reforestation program of the North-Western Economic Zone began symbolically on February 6, 2024, with the planting of 30 trees. During the press event, speeches were given by László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, Ákos Balázs, Deputy Mayor, Erzsébet Katona, Municipal Representative, and Hans-Peter Kemser, President & CEO of the BMW Group Plant Debrecen.

László Papp emphasized that the Debrecen local government launched Hungary’s most significant city greening program in 2019, with one of its key locations being the North-Western Economic Zone. During the planning process, an important consideration was ensuring that industrial development would take place in a sustainable, environmentally-friendly manner. As a result, the tree planting program was initiated, which will create a green corridor around the industrial park.

Hans-Peter Kemser welcomed the initiative and emphasized that the factory is committed to sustainability and environmental protection in its operations. To this end, hundreds of trees have already been planted in the parking lots, and they will continue their greening efforts. A 44-hectare solar power plant will be established, and in the future, all cars rolling off their production lines will be fully electric.
